iPhone 6 Review

Cheatsheet image example

As an Apple user (more so than a fan), I do like the new iPhone 6 released this year in late 2014. Be that as it may, there are real concerns with regards to the product integrity of the iPhone device itself that I would like to tackle in this article.

Software

In terms of Apple iOS, I personally think the new iOS 8 was needed back as early as iOS 5. When it comes to adding additional functional abilities, Apple is thee slowest to say the least. Part of the reason for this is that Apple, unlike most corporations where the basis of production is mainly geared towards a cost-benefit analysis, is highly ideological in its approach to its products. The two obvious repurcussions of this approach are

  1. Qualitative product and services
  2. Technological lagging of advancements

This is reinforced through a recent interview Charlie Rose (Bilderburg member) had with Apple's CEO Tim Cook as well as the recent keynote in September. That is that Apple's thematic focus is on perfecting the user experience.

Getting back to iOS8, 8 comes with a whole array of features that blow all previous firmwares (iOS's) out the water in terms of what you can do. This is the first iOS that I myself would be pleased to operate without the need of a jailbreak.

So in my honest assessment of the device, iOS8 got a perfect score in improvements and abilities.

Hardware

The device itself has more criticism to it than praise. So I'll knock out the praise before I get into the criticism.

The iPhone 6 is really really nice and really really slick. I do like the design, feel, and the size. It is truly an amazing device if I say so myself.

However, there are slight criticism that I've come to recognize from many Apple users.

  1. Size

More Apple users than not were completely satisfied with the screen size of Apple's iPhone 5 and 5s. Massive amounts of people on social media were slightly disappointed on the size increase of these devices. Many people even said or agreed that the best iPhone model and size ever was the 5 and 5s.

There is more to the size. Instead of keeping the smaller size the same as the 5s, they increased the smaller size making the 6+ Nearly a tablet phone. As I personally held the iPhone 6 myself, the size was more than enough of a mobile phone, bordering between a phone and a tablet. Most people have the view that Apple originally adopted in terms of a mobile device size. If things are beyond your thumbs reach, its to big for a one-handed device, which is what a phone is suppose to be.

While Apple did something amazing for the user experience on the iPhone 6+, which was adding certain gestures to bring functionality back to thumbs reach, the whole idea of expanding the interface of a mobile phone beyond thumbs reach just doesnt sit well with a lot of people. I personally dont see Apple making a major profit off of the 6+ as the 6 will. And the attempt to gain Android users to the Apple platform by the mere means of the 6+ was too much of a sacrifice on both Apple's marketing orthodoxy as well as its cost benefit analysis.

Bend-gate

Another problem with the 6+ is the structural integrity of the device. With the plethora of reports that have gone viral over the issue, I believe the entire bend-gate contraversy is irrefutably demonstrated in this video here

http://youtu.be/IROcoJeVfSI

Based on the video, the iPhone 5s structural integrity is flawless along with the Moto X. The iPhone 6 slightly bends almost unnoticeably. So the iPhone 6 is good enough, but for an Apple product along with consumers paying top dollar, it should be flawless in going through the hand-bend test. The iPhone 6+, which I personally believe was a flop and never needed from Apple, further proves it is a flop with the extremely poor structural integrity demonstrated in numerous independent reports and videos.

  1. Not waterproof

As Apple is thee standard of quality smart phones on the planet, I still do not fathom why Apple has not automatically simply taken upon themselves the task of liquipeling (to water-proof devices using nano technology) their devices

While an Apple iPhone can withstand falling in water for a few seconds and come out with virtually no repurcussions unlike most other phones, the fact that Samsung even provided waterproof (liquipelled) phones to some of their S4's (depending on consumer choice) makes this unsatisfactory from an objective analysis.

  1. Internal storage

I was immensely pleased and joyed that Apple got rid of the 32g phone, and made the middle model a 64g phone. I was even more happy when they introduced the 128g iPhone. More space is necessary considering what is being produced by App developers along with the rise of usage that people use their mobile devices to perform an array of functions whether it be business transactions, video or music projects, or simply to play games. And since games take up thee most space than all other genre of apps on either the AppStore or the Android Playstore, it would have made much more sense to drop the 16g iPhone.

The fact that Apple is offering the base iPhone at a 16g rather than a 32g is farcical to say the least. I would even argue that a 16g device even for children is useless. Why? Because children are the ones most prone to use their device for games. Since games take thee most space on a phone, 20 games would most likely fill their entire 16g device.

Even worse is the almost 5 gigabits of free space required to install a new firmware (iOS) onto devices. Thus 16g device owners would have to delete nearly half their content in order to update their device if they wanted to.

  1. Curvature

The iPhone 5 and 5s were the most perfect models ever made. The architecture of the device was amazing as it took almost a Mac computer form, whether a Macbook Pro, an iMac, or the Mac Mini. With the 6 designs, the curvature is less than the par excellence of the 5 and 5s models.

Despite these criticisms, it is just as reasonable to highlight that Apple's competetors, even the best that HTC has to offer or Samsung, or Nokia, none of them can even reach Apple blunders. I say this as someone who likes these Android devices, not somebody who is completely impartial and anti-Android.

Conclusion

I'd say all and all, the iPhone 6 is a worthy product, the best phone in terms of its abilities Apple has ever made. I'll be looking forward in trying to acquire the iPhone 6 as that seems to be the model to get rather than the 6+.
